Looking Forward to (re)Centre
Are you an Indigenous artist that is new to your craft, are currently a student or recent graduate? Are you interested in sharing your experiences in artistic learning and knowledge exchange environments? We invite you to be a part of a groundbreaking initiative that seeks to amplify Indigenous voices across so-called Canada.
We are seeking fifteen Indigenous artists that are new to their craft, are currently students or recent graduates to create 5-7 minute filmed/digital creative expressions in response to prompts that reflect their unique journeys in education and community engagement.
We are interested in offerings in all mediums, forms, and styles: dance, theatre, storytelling, digital art, writing, poetry, puppetry, beading, birch bark biting, you name it! These expressions will be a powerful testament to the diverse experiences of emerging/new to craft Indigenous artists, fostering a deeper understanding of their perspectives.
Join us in creating a platform that not only celebrates Indigenous artistry in education but also contributes to a collective vision for the future. Embrace this opportunity to be a part of the Looking Back to (re)Centre project—shaping narratives, fostering connections, and inspiring change.

Mentor Artist Offering Program
Through the Mentor Artist Offering, IAKE is building and gathering resources and materials for the Indigenous Arts Sector. IAKE is engaging artist mentors to create an online offering that can take the form of a class, workshop, and/or sharing that will support Indigenous artist learners in growing their craft. The offering that the artist mentor creates will remain under the ownership of the artist into perpetuity.
For this program, IAKE will work directly in collaboration with the mentor artist to create an offering that feels in alignment with their skills and interests. The class/workshop/offering can take on a variety of forms that support the mentor artist, this includes video, audio or written work. The final offering will be available to the public through IAKE website and social channels.
