What we do

Vision

IAKE imagines a future where Indigenous artists can thrive within self-determined arts spaces that celebrate Indigenous systems of knowledge, practice, and protocol.

Guiding Principles

We work within the guiding principles, adapted from the work of Indigenous scholars like Linda Tuhiwai Smith and Shawn Wilson, known as the 5 R’s: Respect, Responsibility, Relevance, Relationality and Reciprocity.

Mission

IAKE is an Indigenous-run and led organization responding to training limitations for Indigenous artists, promoting resilience through flexible, values-based learning in diverse settings.

Seven Baskets

The Seven Baskets were identified and compiled during circles in 2020-2021 with partner organizations including Full Circle: First Nations Performance, the En’owkin Centre, the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, Debajehmujig Theatre Group, Gwaandak Theatre, and Ondinnok Theatre.
